IP E-Game Ventures, Inc.

IP E-Game Ventures Inc., shortened as IP E-Game/s or IP e-Games, was one of the major live service game publishers in the Philippines. It is a subsidiary of IP Ventures Group Corp. through IP-E Global Holdings Corp. The company focused on live service gaming through its E-Games portal until 2012, when it diversified its business operations. It is the first live service game publisher in the country that capitalized on the then-novel free-to-play business model.

IP E-Game is the first and currently the only video game-related company in the country to become publicly listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange in 2010. The company, now suspended in the PSE since 2015, is listed under the stock trading symbol "EG".

After ending its live service gaming venture by merging its business with Level Up! Inc. in 2012, the company looked into other industries such as the casino and tourism industry.

SEC Philippines information

IP E-Game Ventures Inc. was registered on November 22, 2005, under the SEC number CS200518779.

About

Originally IP Interactive Inc.[1] with E-Games as its gaming portal, IP E-Game became the first live service game publisher to emphasize the free-to-play business model. While the company was not the first one to offer a free-to-play live service game in the Philippines, it did capitalize on the then-novel free-to-play business model in the Philippine market, which, at the time, was leaning towards a subscription-based model. This decision quickly made IP E-Game a major competitor to the monopoly of Level Up! Inc., the latter of which was reportedly controlling 80% of the live service gaming market in early 2006.

The company continued its venture in the live service gaming market until 2012 when its operations were with Level Up! Inc.

History

Launch

In the third quarter of 2005, IP Ventures Group Corp. (IPGV) signed a partnership with Malaysian game publisher Terra ICT Sdn. Bhd. (later known as eGames Global Sdn. Bhd.) to publish various game titles in the Philippines, with exclusive rights to distribute Battle Position in the country. Terra ICT was the operator of e-Games Malaysia.[2]

In early 2006, IPVG entered into an agreement with iGames Asia Pte Ltd. to form a joint venture that would exclusively sell, distribute, and publish iGames products in the Philippines, owning 70 percent of the joint venture, while the rest will be owned by the Singaporean distributor of interactive entertainment software.[1]

IP E-Game was launched commercially on March 31, 2006. Later that year, IPVG also acquired rights to Granado Espada. However, because Granado Espada used a pay-to-play subscription model back then, so the game was placed under the revived brand of IP Interactive.

Competing in the live service gaming market (2006-2012)

In 2008, IP E-Game and GMA New Media, Inc., the digital media arm of the Philippine television network GMA Network, entered into a Shareholders’ Agreement to create and operate a joint venture company to be incorporated under the name i-Play Inc. This company would eventually be renamed to X-Play Online Games.

In 2010, the company became publicly listed in the Philippine Stock Exchange under the stock trading symbol "EG".

In 2011, the company ventured into the internet café industry with the majority purchase of both Netopia and CyBr franchises.

End of live service gaming venture (2012)

In early 2012, its live service gaming operations were merged with its competitor, Level Up! Inc. In the merge, IP E-Game received equity in Level Up! Inc., commercial interest in PlayWeb Games Inc., and a cash consideration. The company also began its business diversification program, where it amended its primary purpose to include food and beverage, entertainment, hotels, and leisure.

In 2014, the company sold all of its 30% stake in Level Up! Inc. to Asiasoft Corporation.
