Granado Espada SEA

Granado Espada SEA, also known as the sGE server, was an official service of Granado Espada that ran from 2007 until 2017. It was published in the SEA region by IAHGames and was distributed and marketed in the Philippines under E-Games. It is the only game that was placed under IP Interactive, a sister brand of E-Games.

History

SEA service and business model change

Granado Espada SEA (sGE) was published in the SEA region by IAHGames. It started its closed beta in January 2007. Officially, it serviced Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

Live service publisher E-Games partnered with IAHGames to distribute and market the SEA server in the Philippines. At that time, Granado Espada was under a subscription-based, pay-to-play model. To prevent conflict with E-Games' "freedom to play forever" free-to-play branding, the game was marketed under a new brand, IP Interactive.

E-Games celebrated Granado Espada's commercial launch in the Philippines on September 15, 2007, at the One Esplanade Convention Center in Pasay City, Metro Manila.[1] The event included the finals of a PVP national tournament and cosplay competitions.

E-Games celebrated the first anniversary of the game on September 27, 2008, during Globe Telecom's Oi, May Gimik event.

Four months after its launch, sGE went from using a subscription-based model to a free-to-play model on December 6, 2007. The game was subsequently listed as one of the official games under E-Games, and the IP Interactive brand was dissolved.

End of E-Games support

Despite lacking popularity compared to E-Games' other titles like RAN Online and CABAL Online, E-Games continued to support and market the game and include it in E-Games' annual Domination events until Domination V in 2011. One of its final on-ground Philippine events under E-Games was the 4th-anniversary celebration on July 2, 2011, at Padi's Point in SM City North Sky Garden in Quezon City, Metro Manila.[2]

By September 2011, the Granado Espada Philippine website was redirected to E-Games' Dragonica website instead.[note 1]

SEA service closure

The sGE server continued to run for another six years until it was shut down on April 27, 2017.[3]

Global Steam version

On November 1, 2017, IMC Games, the game's developer, began self-publishing the game on Steam for the SEA market under the name "Granado Espada SEA". The Steam version later added servers for NA and EU and was renamed to simply "Granado Espada".

Early monetization

The game was originally planned to be subscription-based with microtransactions. The subscription model was scrapped in its first year and was converted into a free-to-play model instead.
