MU Online

MU Online is a free-to-play MMORPG developed by South Korean developer Webzen for Microsoft Windows. The game was originally published by Mobius Games in the Philippines from 2004 until 2012. A SEA version was launched under PlayPark from 2020 until 2022. A newer SEA server is currently being handled by Webzen since 2022.

About

Under Mobius Games - MU Philippines

Mobius Games held an EB party for MU Online at PCXpress Area, Alabang Town Center on October 30, 2004. On December 21, 2004, its Bahr server implemented the Dark Lord (v0.99z) patch. On December 27, the remaining server implemented that patch. The game was launched commercially on February 2005.

On November 2011, Mobius Games announced that the license for the game was up for renewal since August 2011. Mobius requested for the same 3-year contract from Webzen. However, Webzen countered with "outrageous terms" that were different from the previous 3-year contract.[1] Unable to compromise, Mobius Games was forced to close the game down on January 12, 2012.[2]

Under PlayPark - MU SEA

PlayPark launched the closed beta of the SEA version of MU Online on March 10, 2020. It launched commercially on March 26, 2020.[3] PlayPark's SEA server ended on March 22, 2022. Player data were migrated from PlayPark servers to Webzen's own SEA server.[4]

Esports

On November 6, 2004, Mobius Games held the Battle Soccer tournament at the Market! Market! at Taguig City. "Rebels" from Metro Manila/Cebu won to represent the Philippines in the MU World Battle Tournament.
