RagnaFest 2003 (Philippine Ragnarok Online launch event)

RagnaFest 2003, also known as the Philippine Ragnarok Online launch event, was an on-ground event to celebrate the commercial release of Ragnarok Online in the Philippines. It was held on Saturday, September 13, 2003, at the Glorietta Activity Center of Ayala Malls Glorietta in Makati City, Philippines. The game's Philippine publisher, Level Up!, organized the event.

The event was being held concurrently with the finals of the 2nd Samsung Philippine Cybergames, which was being held from September 12 to 14, 2003, in the same venue.

About

The event was an on-ground celebration of Philippine Ragnarok Online's commercial launch. The game had been in beta since June 2003, and players were able to access the game for free. After the commercial launch, the game transitioned into its subscription-based business model. It is also known for Alodia Gosiengfiao's first cosplay, where she dressed up as a Priestess from the game.[1]

A special presentation was hosted by National Youth Commission Chairman Bam Aquino, as well as celebrities Charissa Litton and Ryan Agoncillo. All of them were cosplaying as Ragnarok characters. In particular, Aquino was cosplaying as a Wizard, while Litton was cosplaying as a Magician. The event also saw a speech by Jung Ryool Kim, the chairman of the game's South Korean developer Gravity, and was followed by a televised message from Myung Jing Lee, the South Korean creator of the Ragnarok manhwa on which the game is based.[note 1]
