PlayPark Inc.

PlayPark Inc., also known as PlayPark Philippines and formerly known as Playweb Games Inc., was a live service gaming company in the Philippines. It was responsible for managing the PlayPark brand and its operations in the Philippines.

PlayPark Inc. was partially owned by Thailand tech holding company Asphere Innovations Public Co. Ltd. (formerly Asiasoft Corporation Public Co. Ltd.) from 2017 until 2024. While Asiasoft's investor reports and news sources state that PlayPark Inc. was its subsidiary, Asiasoft only owned at most 40% shares in PlayPark Inc.

The company has been succeeded by Hubvantage Services Inc.

SEC Philippines information

PlayPark Inc. was registered on June 8, 2011, under the SEC number CS201109838.

Background

The Philippine live service game publisher Level Up! Inc. (LUI), which operated the gaming portal Level Up!, was originally owned by Level Up! International Holdings Pte. Ltd. (LUIH). In 2006, ePLDT, Inc. acquired a majority stake in Level Up! Inc.

About

As Playweb Games: 2011-2014

On July 11, 2011, ePLDT sold its entire interest in LUI. On September 1, 2011, LUI announced that LUIH had re-acquired its ownership shares from ePLDT and that LUI, effective that day, would sub-license all of its games to a newly established publishing company, Playweb Games Inc.[1] The move was done as part of a corporate restructuring.

Playweb Games was a separate and distinct corporation from LUI, although its live service gaming operations remained largely unchanged from LUI. Playweb Games acted as a publishing proxy, and all third-party distributor contracts with LUI were transferred to Playweb Games.

In 2012, when Level Up! was merged with E-Games, an undisclosed commercial interest amount in Playweb Games was given to IP E-Game Ventures, Inc.

Asiasoft and PlayPark: 2012 onwards

In 2012, Thailand-based tech holdings company Asiasoft Corporation, through its Singaporean publishing subsidiary, Asiasoft Online Pte. Ltd., announced its intention to enter the Philippine live service gaming market.[2]

In 2014, Asiasoft acquired LUI. Playweb Games, which is 40% owned by LUI, was re-established as PlayPark Inc. to manage the operations of the PlayPark brand in the Philippines. Asiasoft categorized Playweb Games as an associate company.

In 2017, Asiasoft issued a paid-in capital of US$4 million to obtain 40% shares of PlayPark Inc. from LUI. Asiasoft upgraded PlayPark Inc.'s designation from an associate company to a subsidiary.[note 1]

In 2024, Asiasoft, now Asphere Innovations, sold all of its 40% shares to Philippine outsourcing company Hubvantage Services Inc. Hubvantage would continue to provide services for PlayPark in the Philippine region.

Note

  1. Asiasoft Corporation/Asphere Innovations uses the term "subsidiary" as "having significant ownership". The business definition of a subsidiary is a company owned by a parent company that has legal and financial control over the former. This control is usually obtained by having more than 50% ownership, which is not the case with PlayPark Inc.
