History

Planned Xbox 360 Launch in 2006

During the Software Innovations Philippines, an event that was held from May 8 to 10, 2006, at the Shangri-La Hotel in Makati City, the general manager of Microsoft Philippines Antonio "TJ" Javier claimed that the company "definitely [will have] an official Xbox 360 launch in the Philippines". He stated that the company's new Home and Entertainment Division (HED), under which the Xbox falls, would be launching in July of that year, and that a formal launch of the Xbox 360 would be held afterwards. He could not confirm if the online service Xbox Live would also launch. Xbox was one of the featured products during the event.[1] The console did not launch in July 2006.

In November 2006, Microsoft Philippines marketing director Karrie Ilagan stated that there was no definite date for the Xbox 360 launch in the country, and all of the efforts were being poured into the February 2007 worldwide launch of Microsoft Vista. She also stated that the HED, where Xbox 360 would supposedly be handled, had been renamed to the "entertainment device division".[2] The console was never launched.

Xbox Recognition of Individuals

Friends of Xbox

In early 2008, the blog "Third World Gamer" was chosen by Xbox Singapore as part of its "Friends of Xbox" promo, where bloggers who share their experiences with Xbox are featured. The blog's owners, husband and wife Philip and Joanne Ortiz, who are also moderators of the PinoyXbox forums, referred the PinoyXbox community to the event organizers. PinoyXbox is an online forum that was founded in 2002.[3]

Xbox MVP

Sometime in 2007-2008, Filipino PC gaming advocate Adrian Rodriguez was awarded the Microsoft Most Valuable Professionals (MVP) for the Xbox category. The MVP is a recognition given to the best Microsoft professionals and advocates.[4] He would later earn more awards under the MVP program, including awards not related to Xbox.[5]

In June 2008, the couple Philip and Joanne Ortiz were also named Xbox MVPs for their work in PinoyXbox. Philippines Technology Specialist Jojo Ayson said the Ortizes were recognized as people who made significant contributions to the promotion of the Xbox gaming platform.[4]
