GunZ: The Duel
GunZ: The Duel is a free-to-play live service third-person shooter game developed by South Korean developer MAIET Entertainment and was published internationally on the ijji gaming platform from 2006 until 2012. The game uses peer-to-peer multiplayer.
In its early years, the game achieved a cult following in the Philippines. Level Up! originally planned to release the game in the Philippines, but it did not follow through.
History
By 2005, internet cafés were experimenting by installing newly released live service games not supported by local publishers. The most popular real-time action titles were games that used peer-to-peer multiplayer,[note 1] such as WarRock (before it was locally published by Amped) and GunZ: The Duel. At that time, there were no live service shooter games published in the country. GunZ achieved a small following in the Philippines.
Following its popularity, Level Up! originally planned to release the game in the Philippines in 2006 alongside RF Online and FreeStyle.[1] The game, however, was never released, although it was released in overseas Level Up! operations in Brazil and India.
Note
- Due to the reduced latency between Filipino players despite the main servers being hosted overseas.
