Culture Crash Comics Convention 2003 (C3 Con 2003)

The Culture Crash Comics Convention 2003, also known as C3Con 2003 and The Second Philippine Comicbook, Gaming and Animé Convention 2003, was a Philippine anime, gaming, and comic book convention co-organized by the Filipino comic book magazine Culture Crash Comics and Level Up!, the publisher of Philippine Ragnarok Online. It was held on the weekend of December 13 and 14, 2003, at Megatrade Hall 2 of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong.

It is best known as the launching point of Alodia Gosiengfiao, who became widely recognized after cosplaying as Gun Mage Rikku from Final Fantasy X-2.

C3Con 2003 is the second and last convention by Culture Crash, as the magazine was discontinued the following year.

About

Philippine Ragnarok Online's involvement

Following Ragnarok Online's open beta and commercial launch in 2003, the game became widely popular in the Philippines. Its publisher, Level Up!, began aggressively marketing the game in various anime and pop culture communities.

Alodia Gosiengfiao's rise

The event is widely recognized as Alodia Gosiengfiao's rise to fame, following her first cosplay in RagnaFest in September 2003. She cosplayed as Gun Mage Rikku from Final Fantasy X-2 in C3Con 2003, for which she won 3rd place in the cosplay contest. She was accompanied by her sister, Ashley, who cosplayed as Gun Mage Yuna. Both of them, in their cosplays, would be featured on the cover of the following Culture Crash issue, Issue #14 in 2004. It would also be the final issue of the magazine.
