League of Legends: Wild Rift

League of Legends: Wild Rift is a mobile MOBA game developed and published by Riot Games. It was first released in the Philippines in 2020. It is a mobile adaptation of the PC MOBA League of Legends.

At around 2023, the game saw a significant decline. Wild Rift has since received little support from its publisher, Riot Games, and the game has relied mostly on grassroots tournaments and other community events. As of 2026, it remains a distant third in the mobile MOBA market in the Philippines, following Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Honor of Kings.

About

Launch

The Philippines and Brazil were the first two countries to publicly test the game. On May 29, 2020, Riot Games announced that it would be conducting a regional alpha test for those two countries from June 6 to June 27, 2020 (PHT). The Philippines and Brazil were chosen as those regions have players that "aren’t super similar in the way they play games", thus the developers would receive a variety of feedback from two opposing groups.[1]

The first regional closed beta test for the game occurred in SEA, which included the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. The closed beta test was held from September 18 to early October 2020. Philippine players who participated in the previous alpha test were automatically included in the closed beta.[2]

The first regional open beta test also occurred in SEA, which included the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, as well as Japan, South Korea, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Timor-Leste. The open beta started on October 27, 2020 (PT),[3] and the open beta no longer wiped player accounts, unlike previous tests.

The game received significant advertising in the Philippines during its launch period, and its connections with the original League of Legends, a popular internet café game in the country, made Wild Rift experience a huge popularity surge during its initial months. After the initial hype, the game started to decline as players moved back to Mobile Legends, an easier and less complex game with more established communities and esports scene.
