Aramith's Quest: The Summoning

Aramith's Quest: The Summoning is a mobile fantasy text adventure game developed by Philippine game developer ePLDT ContentDev as an entry to the Sony Ericsson P800 Code-to-Cash competition. The game features hand-rendered art, compelling text and dialogue, and multiple puzzles.

The game was made free for owners of the Sony Ericsson P800.[1]

About

Aramith's Quest: The Summoning was developed for the Sony Ericsson Code-to-Cash worldwide competition in 2002, which involved "creating the leanest, coolest and most practical application for the new Sony Ericsson P800 Smartphone".[2]

ePLDT ContentDev's Head Buddy Del Rosario stated that "It took three weeks to design and develop the game. Much of the time was spent developing the actual code. We didn't have much time and resources to add bells and whistles, but the final software was very much like how we planned it to be -- simple and concise".[3]

The Aramith's Quest: The Summoning team was composed of Elmer Andes, Rick Emerson Ong, Anton Gustilo, Debbie Uy, and Leomar Valiao.[4]

Award

Aramith's Quest: The Summoning was declared as one of the top three winners of the Sony Ericsson Code-to-Cash worldwide competition. The game, along with the two other winning entries from Germany and Russia, were featured on Handango, then the world's leading publisher of mobile software.

ePLDT Content Dev received a professional development workstation from IBM valued at $3,000, as well as $2,000 worth of development tools and hardware.

The winners of the competition was announced on January 10, 2003.[2]
