PHILIPPINE RO TEAM AWARDED 1ST RUNNER-UP AT THE RAGNAROK WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009

Even bad weather and lack of sleep couldn’t stop Team Philippines from claiming the country’s first ever finals seat at the Ragnarok World Championships (RWC) 2009 last November 1 at the Pacifico Exhibition Hall in Japan .

Composed of Joelson Go, Jayson Go, Mark Anderson Tan, Robert Lee, Ploy Garcia, Xavier Abaya and Rey-an Lopez, Team Philippines faced off against the best Ragnarok teams from all over the world, overwhelming Germany and the USA and making sure it was Philippines-Japan in the finals.

An enthusiastic Japanese gaming community watched as Team Philippines demonstrated why they deserved to be among the world’s best, giving the Japanese team the fight of their lives. In the end, we captured the first-runner up title of this year’s RWC tournament, a first in Philippine gaming history, and the $7,000 cash prize.

“We practiced really hard knowing we might be facing the Filipinos again this year. We had a great match and we’re looking forward to RWC 2010!” says Yamamoto Yasuhisa, captain of this year’s RWC champion team. 2008’s Philippine squad eliminated Japan ’s representatives during the first round of eliminations at the RWC 2008 held in Manila .

“We are grateful that we have gone this far. Though we didn’t land the top spot, we’re still proud to have put the Philippines in the online gaming map through this triumph. We’re hoping that this bit of good news will help ease the many troubles our country is going through right now,” shared Philippine team captain Joelson Go.

The Ragnarok World Championships is one of the most prestigious online gaming tournaments in the world, gathering the best Ragnarok players from from Japan, USA, Korea, Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, China , Vietnam , Taiwan , Singapore , Malaysia , France , Germany , and Russia , to compete for enormous cash prizes and a prestigious international title.

“We’re very happy with the result of this year’s competition and proud of the Philippine team’s achievement. Pinoy gaming fans back home, who have religiously followed the unfolding of RWC through our SNS (Social Networking Service) updates, are one with us in celebrating this success.
