Man Dies in TPLEX Armed Confrontation

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO- An armed confrontation transpired along TPLEX access road in Brgy Acop, Rosales, Pangasinan earlier this morning 3:10 AM, August 17, 2018.
PCInsp Jason L Corpuz, Chief of Police, Rosales Police Station stated that the confrontation started when the suspect disregarded the OPLAN SITA conducted by PNP personnel in Brgy Poblacion, Balungao, Pangasinan. In response, a dragnet/checkpoint operation was conducted along Brgy. Bakit-Bakit, Rosales, Pangasinan, which is the adjacent town of Balungao.

Upon noticing the established checkpoint, the suspect sped off towards the direction of Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija and was trying to escape. The police officers chased the suspect and upon reaching TPLEX Access Road, he lost control on his driven motorcycle and slide on the shoulder of the access road.

The suspect fired shots against the pursuing policemen prompting them to retaliate which resulted in the death of the suspect.

The SOCO Team from PNP Crime Laboratory Office Urdaneta City conducted crime scene processing and was able to recover the following, one Colt Cal .45 Pistol without serial number with inserted magazine loaded with two live ammunition; three (3) fired cartridge cases of alleged Cal .45; five (5) fired cartridge cases of alleged Cal 9mm; one (1) fired bullet Cal .45; one (1) fired bullet Cal 9mm; one (1) heat sealed transparent plastic sachet of suspected “shabu”; one (1) motorcycle color gray with no plate number used by the suspect; and a back pack containing personal belongings of the suspect.

During the conduct of investigation, the suspect was identified as Joshua Laxamana, 18 years old and a resident of Brgy. San Vicente, Tarlac City, Tarlac. Laxamana was involved in four robbery cases (Akyat Bahay) in the Province of Pangasinan.

PCSupt Romulo E Sapitula, PRO1 Regional Director ordered the Chief of Provincial Crime Laboratory Office to conduct ballistics examination and cross matching of the firearm used by the suspect and identify possible linkages to other crimes committed in the region. He also instructed the conduct of follow up investigation on the identification of motorcycle used by Laxamana through the Land Transportation Office. ###
