Represents Philippines in the world championship on December in Korea

Two months since the search for the first WarRock Philippine Team began, the nationwide tournament finally saw the end of its journey last November 10, 2007 at Station 168 Eastwood when Baguio Clan Uno (BC1) won against Zero Orange One in the championship round with a final score of 9-8.

BC1, composed of Walter Mamaril (a.k.a. asdfadfsdaf), Aquilino Soyosa Jr. (a.k.a. bC1ClanMASTER), Melvin Bares Tumaob (a.k.a bC1PublicEnemy), John Paul Naputo (a.k.a. bC1jimwezt) and Dexter De Castro (a.k.a bC1kazumi), had an undefeated streak during the finals finishing the WarRock World Championship: Road to Korea tournament with a 4-0 record.

The BC1 team, who were the champions from the Baguio Regional Tournament of WarRock, had a twice-to-beat advantage in the championship round when they defeated the NCR Regional champions Ambush in a close fight in the Winner’s Bracket, ending the round with a 7-6 score. Zero Orange 1, the last team from the Online Category to finally snag the last slot of semifinalists, advanced to the championship round after defeating Ambush in a tension-filled do-or-die match, with a 7-6 score.

Zero Orange 1 had been previously sent to the Loser’s Bracket in the first round where they first faced off BC1. From there, Zero Orange 1 bulldozed their way to the finals by winning four straight matches, including their victory against Ambush, to face BC1 again in the championship. It was a fight worthy of a championship match as both teams left the audience teetering on the edge with apprehension on who would win each round.

BC1 drew the first blood on Zero Orange 1 on Round 1. Zero Orange 1 retaliated by winning three straight rounds. From then on was an exciting and explosive match up as Zero Orange 1 and BC1 won alternate rounds, until BC1 secured the title of the first WarRock Philippine Team by winning the last four rounds of the Race to 9 match in the Velruf Map of WarRock.

The team from Baguio who traveled down south from 11PM a day before the competition until 5am was almost pushing for 24-hour no-sleep streak when they won the championship. Save for a half hour of sleep before proceeding to the location of the finals, the players said that they were very tired already during the match.

A lot of finalists commented that they look too calm and composed for a team who had just won PhP100,000 plus airfare and accommodations to Korea for the December 1 WarRock Game and Game World Championship (GNGWC) Finals. Soyosa Jr., a.k.a. bC1ClanMASTER, remarked that "we didn’t even know we have won the finals until the host announced that we were the champions already." A day later, after they had freshened up and had gotten a good night rest, the reality that they were champions had finally sunk in. They suddenly showed a different kind of energy that wasn’t present during the match while they were being interviewed the next day.

The WarRock World Championship: Road to Korea is a nationwide search for the first WarRock Philippine Team organized by Amped Games in partnership with Hero TV Channel, NU 107 Rock and ZPDee. winning team will represent the country in the WarRock GNGWC Finals where they will compete with other national champion clans from Japan, Europe and America.

Among the other finalists are Zero Orange 1, who placed Second and won PhP50,000 plus trophy. Ambush took the Third Place and received individual medals plus PhP25,000. Other semifinalists include teams Wargods and Barriers, champions from Cebu and Davao respectively, and other online tournament category champions Papable Momol and Olongapo-based teams Accrecia and Torment.

Community Head of WarRock GM Johnny Blaze said that he is expecting for the best and hoping for the worst. "Bilog ang mouse ball. Anything can happen… except kung optical mouse ang gamit," he kidded. "Seriously though, the Philippine Team will definitely try its best. We’re know that WarRock Philippines is fairly new in the WarRock international committee, but knowing the skills of Filipinos in gaming, we can still hope for the best."

Mamaril, a.k.a. asd, called out for the support of other Philippine WarRock players when asked about his expectations after the Philippine championship. "Importante yung suporta sa amin ng ibang teams. Sana magkaroon ng mga trainings sa amin tulad ng 5vs6 or 5vs8 na trainings para hasa talaga kami." [The support of other teams is important to us. We hope that there will be trainings for us like 5vs6 or 5vs8 types of training to hone our skills.]

The winning team has already won the support of the other semifinalists, who had pledged help already to the reigning champions through the Amped forums. They are ready to lend their time to help GM Johnny Blaze set a series of extensive training for the Baguio Clan 1 which is dubbed "Blaze Boot Camp" where a team of six to eight strongest players from the top clans all over the country will slug it out against BC1’s team of five.

A lot of WarRock players are already looking forward to the next nationwide event and the chance to represent the country in an international competition. One player from Cebu can be noted saying thanks to GM Johnny Blaze that his mom is now proud of his son’s gaming skills because it could eventually pave the way for a lucrative future in the world of professional gaming.

Roshan, another WarRock player who is a member of Team Ambush, also related a story to the Community Head. "Nung una, ayaw ako suportahan nila tatay. Tapos nung inuwi ko yung certificate ko, medal tapos may cash prize pa, saka nila nalaman na seryoso din pala ang gaming. Supported na nila ako ngayon, hindi naman affected yung studies ko." [At first, my parents did not support me. But when I took home my certificate, medal and cash prize, they learned that gaming is also a serious business. They now support me since my studies are not affected negatively by my hobby.]
